Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His retrieving play style and frequent reactions on court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a competitive third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
