Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a aggregate 51M watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the last finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American average reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
