Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative said the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
